What are advantages/disadvantages of antidepressants? Do they really make a difference? Which ones are the mos?

So, I am in a shitty relationship, teetering on divorce. Many reasons, but mostly distrust and deciet. I am considering talking to my Doc about antidepressants, but I am nervous about doing so. Will my health insurance beable to take any adverse reactions towards me with a mental health disorder? Also which ones are most effective and won't make you gain weight or keep u up all night or make you sleep all day? Do they really make a difference or is it just a crutch. How do u ask your doc about such things?
