Why do i always try to impress my father?

Well i just noticed today that i always try to impress my dad, He isnt the nicest person and is mean alot. Iv had 100 of hobbys in my life and i have been free running for the past few days and had alot of fun doing it, then i showed my dad some tricks for the first time and he said it was stupid so i went inside and i dont feel like free running anymore. so i wondered why and i relized i get new hobbys all he time after my father insults them, skateboarding, basketball, magic and more. So why do i do this?
