Should I shave my matted Wooly Siberian Husky?

I just adopted a Wooly Siberian Husky from a private Husky rescuer. The previous family neglected this dog and didn't provide the proper amount of exercise/training that this dog requires. He is a 5 year old male and his inner coat is matted everywhere. It's summer now and I am very worried about him not being able to cool himself down because of the poor condition of his inner coat. I went to a very reputable groomer and they recommended me to do a shave down. I know in general that you're not suppose to shave a Husky but would my dog's current condition make this an exception? I've tried combing it but its almost next to impossible because it's matted extremely bad. I even have trouble digging my finger through it to his skin. Also, the groomer said when they shave it, they also have the opportunity to remove any ticks or bugs latched onto his skin/hair. Please keep in mind I have a Wooly Siberian Husky which means he has a longer coat compared to regulars Sibes.

If you feel that this what is happening, suggest to your mom that maybe the both of you can go and talk to the Doctor to get his/her opinion on the matter. Or you can show her the info on the medication from the pharmacy that tells people to watch for those adverse affects. If you feel this intensely about these things, please don't just deal with it. Cat rescue center for stray cat?

Let me start by saying my online conduct record has not been perfect by any means, I have trolled, and have said some pretty mean things to people on the 'net. Is my kitten acting normal after vaccinations?

Hi everyone. Yesterday I took my 6 month old kitten to get his vaccinations, which included panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, chlamydia, leukemia, and bordetella (2 were given via IM and one intranasally) After these were administered, I requested that he also be groomed. They said he would have to be sedated in order to do so, which is not unheard of so I've been told. I realize that after the sedation, he would still be drowsy for a few hours or more depending on how much was given and how quickly his body metabloizes the med. However my concern now is that it has been over 24 hours and he still is not acting the same, although he has improved slightly since yesterday. He's steady on his feet and is more alert. He's also been eating small amounts of food, but sleeps most of the day and acts very depressed. I feel horrible, because usually he is really hyper and plays most of the time. Is it possible that he having an adverse reaction to one of the meds? The site does not feel swollen or look infected. How long can I expect him to continue to act this way? Should I take him to a different vet tomorrow? I hope he forgives me....it makes me want to cry seeing him act so quiet...I actually miss his hyperactive personality :-( Thanks for any advice.

My Mom had a stroke last February on the left side of her brain. It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but she still has memory and concentration issues and can't hold a job for long without forgetting what she learned in orientation. My brother is making our life currently really stressful and there is nothing I can do to stop that. I've given up on him and kicked him out of the house, but my mom can't stop hoping that he'll grow up and quit making our lives hell. She cares too much about him for her own good, and it's upsetting her terribly. She has been complaining of a headache for the last couple days. That's what happened last February before she had her stroke; she had had a headache for about a week before she had her stroke. This time if the blood clot bursts, she will die. Last time we got lucky and it didn't burst, if it does burst this time then there is nothing I can do because we have no health insurance and we're living on my paycheck. I can afford the bills, and we barely have anything left over for gas and food. I can't afford the hospital on my check without us all starving, and the hospital would kick us out when I couldn't pay anymore. But I can't afford for her to die, she's the only family I have left. I'm still in high school, I already do as much OT as I can, can't work any more hours than I currently am without dropping out and if I drop out I'll never have a chance to get a better job and get us out of our current situation. I need more time and then I'll will graduate, so I've looked up online some natural cheaper-than-pharmacy-drugs online and I was wondering if there was any known bad reactions to having her take Aspirin every day, and then having her take Vitamin E and Ginkgo every other day. Can or should I bring my 8 week kitten back to see his mom and siblings for a visit?

My boyfriend's cat had a litter of six kittens 4/10/11. Since then we have given 3 away, he is keeping 2, and I am keeping one (we live seperately). I just took my little dude home this weekend and he was fine but I know he's super active and loves to play and misses his playmates. I took him back last night for a visit, and he went up to the mom cat and she pretty much ignored him so then he wound up playing though with his two brothers just like they did before. By the end when I took him home that night, the mom kind of looked sad when we took him and he whined in the car a bit (but I don't know if that's because he just didn't enjoy the car ride as he meowed on the way over as well). So there were no real problems, but I'm just wondering is it benefical or detrimental doing this? I was planning on just doing this like once or twice a week have a visit til he gets older and isn't as interested in playing. I know it's good for him to play, but is it just confusing them all? If anyone has advice, like a vet or animal rescuer that would be great.

We took the risks...put every waking moment into it and nearly starved to death for many years. Kept taking the risks and eventually it paid off for us. Success has little to do with luck but everything to do with hard work and putting yourself out there. We didn't take vacations or drive brand new cars or live in fancy houses but we kept people working, sent our kids to school and have lived an honest and satisfying life. There is no pension but in our senior years, we are finally financially comfortable and more importantly, respected for our work, both in our industry and in the community. I am 5'11", about 150 pounds. I would be riding a bmx bike, brakeless would be fine, and maybe doing grinds if I get into it. I'm dont' know what the average sizes are, but I'm sure that some size frames, weights, and tires work better with certain spots, just like with skateboarding which I've been doing for 3 years. Cats using my garden as a litter box?

Last year I had a 4'X8' raised bed vegetable garden that we grew tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and cucumbers in. We really enjoyed it and would like to do it again this year. The problem is that I've noticed the neighborhood cats in there a few times and when I looked today it appears that they have been digging. I'm assuming the cats are using my garden as their litter box. I don't want to start all over from scratch again but I don't want to suffer any adverse health effects from the cat waste. What makes prison inmates so violent?

Recently I watched an episode of Locked Up. There was a segment on the notorious 1980 New Mexico State prison riot. Due to overcrowding and many other issues, guards were taken hostage and some were brutally raped. What's worst was that inmates housed in cell block 4 (mostly informants and weak/vulnerable) were tortured, mutilated and even decapitated (blowtorch was used to cut someone's head off). I was in shock and had the same question some of the rescuers at the scene had: How could human beings possibly commit such things? Are these inmates naturally violent or did they become violent while in prison? One rescuer served in vietnam and even he said he hadn't seen something like that.

23 year marriage, no significant problems until 5 years ago when she was told without proof, evidence, eye witness, that her husband had an affair 12 years earlier. Plus he is accused of having parties with several women at once. The wife never even hints at what she was told to the husband, she is advised and helped to leave while the husband is at work, take what she wants including every penny she could find. Then she and her rescuers find it prudent to not answer phone calls from the husband creating the greatest obstacle they could complete silence. Zero communication.The husband is devastated there was no affair, outta no where and without warning, poof she's gone. The wife after a month or so recognises that she has made a colossal error and returns to the husband. A month goes by when the husband returns from work one day, she notifies him she is leaving, again. Reason unclear something to do with the alleged affair. 12 years earlier, supposedly. Two months elapse when she is convinced that her husband is telling the truth, why the cold, cruel, in sensitive back stabbing attack occurred in the first place, who knows ? That's twice, fast forward 5 more years. She leaves to get milk and the next call received from her is the I'm not coming home call. To recap, Happy marriage 18 years, out side interference, first and second separation. Now its five years since the second separation over 15 years since the bs affair and the end of March 2011, she is now over 300 miles away, very little contact yet she says,please don't divorce me, and move here you can get a place and I will stay here ( with family ). I really don't have a question, I just had to tell the story...WTF ? Oh yea, the husband sort of adopted her family as his own because he didn't have his own. Now she has created such a divide that the sudo family is ice cold to him...really WTF...? Wait, I have a question, if you were the family of the wife, given a 27 year history that was all good, would you, could you, just turn you back on the husband without even a call or letter or e-mail or smoke signal..just completely ignore his calls, texts....The husband is pretty cool, always there when needed without asking and without expecting anything in return. Like that unconditional thing we hear so much about...So, is that ok or should the family have called him to see if he was ok first and second to mediate some sort of communication obviously there's a problem but after 27 years without problem's of any kind, doesn't make sense to try to work it out for a minute anyway. it's not like there was wife beating or anything that is out of ordinary. Well, there ya go...like I said before...WTF ?

Sprained ankle Just did it yesturday Please help in mad pain?

Okay well I was skateboarding yesturday and my fellow skate team members failed to tell me that the rail wasnt waxed so i hit the rail and stuck and fell foward i did the same thing last year and had fractured my ankles it healed fine and everything went threw the whole rehab for it.... well the unfortuate thing is i did the same trick and i severly sprained my ankle i think its all swollen up and i cant walk on it i can only move my big toe the other toes refuse to move lol..... Can anyone help me out on how to stop this pain what i can take to stop swellin besides iceing im already doin that... im currently on Subaxone so i do not want to have to kill my liver lol.... Any Non narcotics? and Any other ways of stoppin the pain i culdnt even sleep last night cause i couldnt find a position to sleep without it hurting.... My mom keeps taking my black ops for no reason no matter what i do?

Ever since i got cod black ops, my mom has been taking for no reason. I never play it too much, only around an hour a day, 2 hours at most, yet she still takes it. I just finished 7th grade and got a straight A in everyone of my classes; and im not a nerd, therefore effort was actually required to do so. A baby hawk or bird landed on my lawn and it's injured...help?

Well first of all you might want to watch out for that hawk, because if that's not the hawk's baby, the hawk might make that bird lunch. If the bird is a young baby or if it's injured you might want to very carefully place it in a cardboard box with a couple towels and make sure it's safe and warm. Then try and call the 'animal rescuers' and then wait for them to come. If they don't come right away then try and give the bird some water and maybe some bread or whatever it eats. You can research online to try and find out what kind of bird it is. Also wash your hands if you touch the baby bird because those things can have all kinds of germs and bugs! Wrongful termination?

I had been hired through a temp agency to work at a factory. To do so i had to pass a drug screen and background check and i passed. Usually after 90 days with the temp agency the company will decide to hire you or let you go. Halfway through they decided to hire me early due to good work with another person. Again i had to do a drug screen and background check. A week later i went in and got sent home with a letter saying they were contemplating making a decision adverse to my employment interests. Basically saying i had been fired because i had 1 misdemeanor on my record. How can i pass the backgorund with the temp agency to get in, then the company fires me for the same reason. Mums who have tried the "cry it out-CIO" method...I need Ur input and advice pls!?

People who have had their braces off for 3+ years, be honest?

No, I don't wear a retainer. I've had my braces off for about 5 years now. My teeth have moved slightly. The fact that I bite my nails a lot most likely has something to do with it, as the front teeth go inwards slightly. I still get lots of compliments on my teeth, they are a good size/shape and are generally still pretty straight. I'm a licensed provider, & I live in a smaller town, so my rates may vary from the rates where you live, but I charge $20-25/day depending on how many hours I have the child. Since you're not licensed, $15-20/day is fair. Daycare providers get paid less than minimum wage - usually an average of $2-4/hr. If we got paid minimum wage, no one could afford to work & put their child in daycare because a lot of people only get paid minimum wage. If you tried charging me minimum wage, I'd think you were really inexperienced.

Sounds fractured but I can't see it so I can't tell you anything more than that. Limited range of motion, moderate to severe pain, discoloration - good symptoms saying you need to go to the doctor for an xray. The funny thing about bones, is that if you let them heal themselves they can sometimes grow wrong which can cause you serious issues (chronic gout like pain, etc).

Could I abruptly discontinue a low-dose SSRI? How long would the effects of the medication linger?

When it comes to anti-depressants, my reservations could fill a novel. But my options are running out and a doctor I have been seeing seems to indicate that I'd really benefit from one, going as far as writing me a prescription. Now, much of my willingness to go through with taking an antidepressant stems on the ability to quit the moment any adverse effects are noticed, and because it's only a 10mg dose, my doctor has assured me that I can do that. Now, I hear that it takes several weeks for this drug (an SSRI, I think its Zoloft) to start working, but if I were to discontinue it, how much longer would it take to flush these effects out of my system, another three weeks?

What is a good non-toxic flea treatment for geriatric cats?

I have two white cats that are 14 years old, brother and sister, and I have had them since they were 6 weeks old. They are indoor cats and the only time they are outdoors is when they go to the vet in their carriers. They have developed a flea problem and a skin allergy from the fleas. I dont want to use a toxic flea spray on them especially the male since his skin is more sensitive. The vet gave me frontline but it had a lot of pesticides and worm medicine in it that they absorbed thru the skin. They werent supposed to have any kind of reaction but they both had very bad reactions both physically and mentally and it took several months for them to return to normal. They have developed fleas again but I dont know how since they are never outside and again the vet wants to put a spray on them that contains pyrethins which I am very leary of doing. Can someone tell me if there is an herbal or natural spray or shampoo out there without pesticides that I could use on them? I have been shampooing them every week in an Oatmeal shampoo with aloe vera in it and putting hydrocortisone cream on the worst places which helps with the itching. My vet assures me that there will be no adverse effects with the flea spray and the shampoo but I just have a bad feeling about them. The brand names are Mal-A-Ket Shampoo and Ovitrol Plus Flea, Tick & Bot Spray for Dogs, Cats & Horses. The reviews say that the fumes can adversely affect adult cats from the spray so why would you use it on them and to use it in an open environment. You cant do that if they are indoor cats. Hope someone knows of something else I can use on them that will be non-toxic and hypoallergenic for their skins. Thanking in advance for your replies.

I'm allergic to lanolin, and face creams containing it give me respiratory problems (though oddly they don't have an adverse effect on my skin.) Guinea Pig Vaginal Bleeding?

I rescued a female guinea pig from a hoarder about two weeks ago who said she is 1 year and 3 months old. At the time she had two babies, I do not know how old they were, they were taken by another rescuer. After cleaning her up, she seems healthy, has a good appetite, urine and stools look normal. Yesterday I was letting her walk around with my other two female guinea pigs, they got in a verbal quarrel, but did not bite each other. I have them separated obviously. Anyway I noticed a while afterwards that she had a few drops of blood, so I cleaned her cage and put her in it, after a while of spotting it stopped. Once again today, I took my 3 guinea pigs outside, all females, this time no contact with each Other. After I put her back in her cage a few hours later I noticed the same thing, spotting. It's not a stream of blood, it is not related to her urine, and she is not showing any signs of pain, just spotting that lasts an hour and then goes away. My mom thinks she is in heat, however this never happened with my other two females. Otherwise I am wondering if she was pregnant and now miscarriaging, but it doesn't seem like enough blood for that. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please do not tell me to go to a vet, I just spent a ton of money with different vets nursing my other rescue back to health. Due to finances, the vet is not an option this time. Suggestions? Is it unheard of to feel intensified pain when taking narcotic painkillers?

Ever since I can remember, anytime I've been prescribed narcotic painkillers I've had an adverse effect. Yes take him to the vet. The plate could be coming lose and if the bone is healed correctly they may be able to remove the plate. My dog has a plate in his leg also but the vet told me it wouldn't cause him any problems as he grew but if he ever showed signs of discomfort with that leg to bring him in. So yes the vet can help him.

She seemed to not be having any adverse reactions, but Friday night she started consuming 50% more water than she did before starting on the drug (day 7 of 14). However, one of the entry requirement says "CPR for the Professional Rescuer." I know how to perform CPR and AED, but I am unsure what it means by Professional Rescuer. My boyfriends peeling, dry feet?

My boyfriend likes to skateboard a lot and he's been doing it for years now. His feet are all peely and hard and dry. In between his pinky toe it ripped and its not scabing up so he's pretty worried. His pinky toes are really messed up. His toenails for his pinkies are like shifting off and they are very gross looking. I told him to put vasaline on his feet before he goes to bed (with socks of course) but he doesn't have any. I just want advice on anything I can give him besides lotion and if I should buy him vasaline?

Buy a new nut, or better replace them all. The nylon lock ring keeps them from loosening and it has worn out. The nuts are available at skate shops or hardware stores.

Starved Horse Rescuers?

A couple other families and mine got a barn together and have rescued 15 horses. All of them were brought back to full body weight and we are working to give them a purpose. Sadly we lost a few who lived out full and happy lives at our barn. We have two that have become dressage show horses (one up to level 2. we are so proud of him!). Four have begun doing therapy lessons for kids with disabilities. Some are just pasture pretties now, but each one is happy and healthy. I will never own a horse that isn't a rescue. They have so much more character and you form a great bond with them during rehabilitation.

The judges screwed us over?!!?

So today I competed in the HOSA CPR/First Aid Regional competitions. Since we placed first in the online competition, we were first to perform the skills. The lady I guess had never been a judge before (which is why I hate going first!!! Me and my partner had a choking patient and a patient with a broken arm).....I did everything flawlessly, except I told my partner to call 911 after I began compressions because there was so much going on and the first aid victim was screaming like a maniac (only 2 out of 90 points)....after about 3 cycles of CPR and checking the airway, the judge was like, "The object is visible".....I was like....its only been like 3 minutes.....I removed the object and did everything I was supposed to do and the judge was like, "The patient is breathing and has a pulse..." I was like....okay...so I placed the patient in a recovery position and performed a secondary survey from head to toe. Found nothing. By this time my partner was assisting me (3.5 minutes into it).....and then the judge said the EMS had arrived. It was unfair because we were supposed to do two rescuer CPR (after she handled the first aid victim) and we had 12 minutes to do so!! We finished in like 4-5 minutes and the judge didn't even give my partner a chance to assist in CPR! Her assisting is half the points. Then I learned that all the other teams finished their competitions in like 11-12 minutes and I was like, "wth?!" then I went to talk to the tabulation booth who said, "they would take it into consideration"...I would at least think they would let us restart or start from where she would assist me. We ended up getting fourth place! When we deserved first! We needed to get third to advance to state. I want to call the national hosa branch because we worked our butts off for this competition and no one is taking us seriously! I talked to my friend who was a patient and she said that me and my partner scored 4th place bcuz we didn't do two person CPR so we lost all of those points. We never even got a chance to because the judge stated that the object was visible WAY before she should have!!!! I'm so upset. I feel like a failure but it wasn't my fault.

Is it okay that my small dog pulls me on my skateboard for exercise?

He is 10lbs very healthy and about 2' in length from nose to tail, up to date with his shots and no health/heart conditions and I'm 140lbs and 5'5 will it hurt him? I have been doing it for a week and he LOVES it!!! I don't hear him wheezing or anything because of his padded harness, he knows when to stop and when to head back. I'm taking an antibiotic called Clarithromycin 500mg for what is either strep throat or mono, strep throat is presumed however there is a small chance it is mono. Did you have any side effects using the DulcoLax/MiraLax with Gatorade Colonoscopy Prep?

Recently had about my 8th colonoscopy and yes they changed the prep. I had the Miralax, Bisacodyl, only I drank the miralax with juice. The only reason they tell you to use gatorade is because it's full of electrolytes which you need because with the BMs, you will loose a lot of your electrolytes most important, potassium. So if you like the taste of gatorade, ( I despise it) then use it. You will not be up all night. I was not. I started when I was told and I slept like a baby. Once this stuff takes effect, you will go not every hour, but more than that. It's very effective. Eat your Jello and stay home. Watch movies, but know this, there are no harsh side effects, no nausea, no vomiting. I didn't experience any of that. Good luck, and hope all comes out well, (Bad joke, sorry)

My friend (hes 15) just broke his pelvis and dislocated his hip...alot of people are telling me those are bad injuries and life changing. Hes gotten 2 surgeries soo far. Will he ever be the same? What are skateboard bearings used for?

Unless her personal pets were living in better conditions she will NOT be getting them back. Why do you feel guilty? Guilt means you did something wrong and you did NOTHING wrong. This woman had taken too much on and refused to scale things back or ask for help. If you hadn't reported her she would have kept going as she was until someone else possibly did.

do not ever take any supplement to help loose weight. if someone could actually produce something that you could take that was available without a prescription that would actually help you loose weight it would cost about a thousand dollars a pill and it would be in such high demand that you would have to weight in line a long time to get it.

Sooo I twisted my ankle...?

I just need some advice from people that have fallen/gotten sprains a lot or just from any professional. So I thought I would try to learn how to skateboard this summer... yeah... so I fell in some weird position and my ankle and calf have been killing me. It hurts when I walk on it but it's not impossible. I fell a couple hours ago but it just feels like as time progresses the pain is just getting worse and worse but there's no bruising or swelling so does that mean it's getting better? Well seriously think about this: You have bills to pay, you're certified in CPR, and you obviously aren't 12 years old. Anything above $10 is ideal for someone of your status. $5 for the 12 year old. But I would NEVER let ANYONE babysit my newborn infant younger than 9 months. That is the most important time for a mother to bond with her child and I don't want anyone, certified or not, handling my baby. That's what 'maternity leave' is for. That's me though. Why is the ratio for two rescuer CPR for child and infants 15:2 and not 30:2?

The simple answer is this. Children and infants go into cardiac arrest 99 times out of 100 due to a respiratory problem. While adults are the opposite they go into cardiac arrest usually do to a heart problem. I could go into the complex answer of tidal volumes and occurrence of P Q mismatches but that is the simple answer.

Best/strongest add or ADHD medication?

I have really bad add and adhd but haven't found the right medication. I've been on regular adderol and xr's 20-80mg, straterra, concerta and none have worked.. I have been on all doses of these and still nothing. My doctor insanely gave me 160 mg of adderol (8 20mg a day) which I refused to take. awkwardly all of these have given me an adverse reaction- more hungry? which medicine is strongest and most reliable to work? also which medicine won't make me hungry? ... I can't just ask a doctor to prescribe me to a medication! lol HELP!!
