Would something impermeable like plastic wrap work for stopping bleeding if you had nothing else?

This might sound naive, but I've heard the best way to stop severe bleeding is simply to stop it by any means necessary. If this is true, wouldn't something like shrink wrap, which is completely impermeable and can be wrapped skin-tight, be a good makeshift choice in stopping bleeding or would there be adverse effects that I'm not aware of?
